Blaster vs Rails

Maltier asks which is better for his Megathron for mission running, blasters or rails?  My own personal pve experience is that range, like speed, is life. Hitting them before they hit you while avoiding the swarm.  Adapt, improvise and overcome.  Not all situations are best dealt with using the same setup.  The general opinion in the posts below echos what you already know, rails for moderate damage at range, blasters for high damage close up.  Stragegy is about maximizing your strengths while exploiting the weakness of your enemies.  If your ship has bonuses, give preference to those mods before fitting others if possible.

• Megathron, PVE setups? rails or ion blasters, personal perference?
• Noob question: Gallente weapons? rails=missions, blasters=pvp?
